In Acts chapter 8 we are told that the church at Jerusalem experienced persecution and believers were scattered throughout. Because of this, other churches came into existence. To some degree, Grace Community Church has a similar start. No, we didn’t face persecution, but some faced difficulties. Because of these difficulties and difference of opinions, a grop of people met together at a shelter house on the east side of Lake Shawnee to discuss starting a new church. From that meeting the decision was made to continue to meet on Sunday mornings at different shelter houses at the late. On September 27th, 1998, Grace Community Church had an organizational meeting at shelter house number 1. We chartered on November 15th, 1998.

After meeting less than a month at the lake, we moved to the South Shawnee Community Center. This was our home for well over a year. God blessed in a great way. On September 12 of 199, we had 254 in attendance. This was a major victory for us and excitement was high. That excitement dropped when we found out that we could no longer meet in the Community Center. It was back to the shelter houses for a couple of weeks. God opened other places for us to meet in and in November of 2000, we started meeting in the Eisenhower middle school.

In December of 1999 we voted to purchase 18 acres of land on our present location and after paying it off in a little over a year, we went into a building program. On March 2nd, 2003 we dedicated the building we are in. As we reach out to the community through our various ministries, we are trusting God to continue to bless us in ways that we can’t imagine.
